I don’t really know how other people lay out their papers, but I tend to read about the subject – at least enough to understand what else I need to read – and then list the sections from introduction to conclusion. In each section, I will put the headings for arguments and try to make sure at this stage that the flow is logical and is set to answer the original question. I then set approximate word counts for each section allowing for additional reading to change the structure or wordage.
This method allows me to ’snack’ write rather than fall into the trap of needing whole hours of uninterrupted time in which to write. Having to write 500 words on, for example, Rae’s opportunity-centred learning model is a great deal easier than 3000 words on enterprise learning theories – it helps to ensure any amount of spare time can be used.
Anyway, Chapter Two has been laid out… i just need to fill in the blank spaces now!
