Home Care

Thank-you for visiting.  This page is for people interested in participating in research that seeks to find why some company’s in the UK are rated ‘Outstanding’ and others merely ‘good’.

The answers may appear obvious… after all, there is an evident USP in having a higher rating, leading to (or so the thought goes) a greater interest by service-seekers and therefore greater  income.

However, with just a few minutes thought, it becomes apparent that this can only be true so far. If this were the case, why are so many of those providers rated as ‘good’ or even ‘requires improvement’ successful in business terms (trading profit, client referrals etc).

Is it due to funding models? The growing need for services,no matter what quality? A combination of both of these or, perhaps, other more complex reasons?

Clearly, the case is not as obvious as it appears at first glance.

At a UKHCA conference in May this year, I was struck by the commonality of values of those invited to attend.  Attendees all had Outstanding CQC ratings and we discussed some of the values we held in common.

Some people owned/managed small companies with few caregivers and care hours.  Others had larger companies and had still retained their values in terms of quality of care.  All seemed to be singing from the same hymn sheet in that the quality they wished to deliver to clients should be suitable for their own parents to receive.

In achieving Outstanding, inspectors agreed that their standards of care were above and beyond ‘good’.

This research intends to explore why your company has the rating it has.  It looks at how you have led your company towards a set of values and ethics that warrant the highest rating, and seeks to learn how you have translated your values to your staff.

It is not interested in finance, quantities (£ or clients) or business specific advantages.  It will only focus on values and transformation in business culture.
