Disappointment

Mobile update: well, I have studied at this university now for almost 10 years and it still manages to surprise me with its sheer incompetence.

I have just been told that my ethics approval, handed in October 2009, cannot now be found. This, presumably, affects the data I have already collected and will almost certainly delay my completion.

Why didn’t I wait for formal confirmation? Because in this university if you waited for every piece of work to be marked or validated before you continued, you would never complete. For example, and this is routine and run of the mill, I sent five emails over the course of four months asking for a short (1500) essay to be marked, without which the entire module could not be completed.

So you learn to press on. I told my sup in February that I would be collecting data in March and no eyebrows were raised, so I assumed (incorrectly as it turns out) that all was well. How to lose interest really easily.
