Reading is going well. I have managed to work my way through a couple of papers and a book that may influence my thesis: my next chapter is entitled ‘how managers learn’ – so a nice tight field there then!
It is only when you look at specific questions you realise just how wide the subject area is… management learning leads to learning in general, leads to learning theories, cognition and social constructionism and trends in learning. ‘Managers’ leads to management theory, management sciences and history, types of manager, types of management, areas of specialisation and areas of stereotypication. All of which are well covered by the literature. Obviously, narrowing the field is crucial, but understanding the depth of any particular topic is where the critical decisions need to be made.
